Begin in Zurich, Switzerland’s vibrant financial and cultural centre, where historic streets, elegant shopping avenues and the shores of Lake Zurich create an appealing blend of old and new. Explore the atmospheric Old Town, stroll along Bahnhofstrasse and enjoy panoramic views from Lindenhof Hill.
Continue by rail to Lucerne, one of Switzerland’s most picturesque cities. Explore its historic Old Town, iconic Chapel Bridge and lakefront setting, while enjoying the opportunity to add an optional excursion into the surrounding Swiss Alps.
With 2 nights in Zurich and 3 nights in Lucerne, this itinerary provides a comfortable balance of city sightseeing, leisure and optional mountain experiences.
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with a meet and greet service and provided a private transfer to your hotel for check-in. After check-in, enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Depending on your arrival time, explore the nearby city centre, explore Zurich’s Old Town (Altstadt), the Limmat River area, Grossmünster and Fraumünster from the outside, Bahnhofstrasse and the shores of Lake Zurich. The remainder of the day is free for shopping, dining or optional experiences.
Overnight: Zurich
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. later walk just 2 minutes into Zurich HB station and take the S-Bahn train northward directly to Neuhausen Rheinfall. Stand on the viewing platforms to experience the raw power of Europe’s largest waterfall. In the afternoon, return by train to Zurich HB. Walk down to the Bürkliplatz boat pier at the edge of the city, board a relaxing afternoon Lake Zurich Cruise to wind down on the water.
Overnight: Zurich
After breakfast, check out and travel from Zurich to Lucerne. After hotel check-in, explore the Old Town and see the famous Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), Water Tower and Lion Monument. Enjoy time along the lakefront and historic streets, walk across the street to the main pier and board a historic paddle steamer across Lake Lucerne to Vitznau. Transfer directly onto the red cogwheel train up to Mount Rigi. Later, descend via panoramic cable car to Weggis, take the boat back to Lucerne, and view the iconic 14th-century wooden Chapel Bridge and the carved Lion Monument.
Overnight: Lucerne
Breakfast at the hotel. Take the regional train down to Stans. Board the vintage funicular and transfer to the spectacular CabriO Stanserhorn—the world’s only open-top, double-decker aerial cableway. Later, return to Lucerne, catch the short local bus to Kriens, and take the panoramic gondolas up the dramatic crags of Mount Pilatus. Descend the opposite cliff wall via the world’s steepest cogwheel railway to Alpnachstad and take a relaxing lake boat cruise back to your hotel.
Overnight: Lucerne
Breakfast at the hotel. Board the Zentralbahn train down the valley to the alpine village of Engelberg. Board the Titlis Xpress gondolas and transfer to the rotating Titlis Rotair cable car to stand on the snow glacier at 3,020 meters. Walk through the illuminated glacier Ice Cave and test your nerve on the Cliff Walk suspension bridge. Afternoon: Return to Lucerne to explore the Neustadt neighborhood’s boutique cafes and parks.
Overnight: Lucerne
Breakfast at the hotel. Check out and proceed to Luzern Station and board the direct, comfortable train straight into the basement terminal of Zurich Airport (ZRH) airport for your onward flight.
